Pablo Soriano's quest for higher education
Pablo is a bright 17 year-old Peruvian young man whose only disadvantage in life was to be brought up in a social environment that requires a lot more than his own driven nature to excel. From humble beginnings, his parents were forced to live the Peruvian country side to immigrate to Lima in search of better opportunities. Being the youngest of four children, he grew up in a healthy family environment where moral virtues were always stressed and taught. The result is who he is today! He has been able to maximize and take full advantage of what life has put in front of him. I met Pablo back in May 2007. It’s interesting how situations develop for oneself. My own desire to help and “give back” materialized the last time I went to visit Peru. Back then, I only wanted to be introduced to a humanitarian organization that could guide me in my search; but instead, by way of a “taxi” ride, I was presented with the opportunity to be personally involved in the development of Pablo’s future. Since then, I have become his tutor, his mentor, his big brother, and most importantly, his friend. Without having a child of my own, I can only feel proud to be part of Pablo’s life quest for success in a very competitive World. Pablo is now asking for your help! He has already done the most he can do on his own. Now is our time to do something that will really make a difference in the life of this kid. Pablo has been accepted to study Nanotechnology and Molecular Engineering at the Universidad de Las Americas Puebla (www.udlap.mx) in Mexico. The UDLA is one of the most prestigious Universities in Mexico, and also one of the most expensive schools in the neighboring country. The good news is that Pablo will not have to pay for his education! He is the recipient of a very competitive UDLA’s scholarship (full), which is only given to top students in Latin America. The only thing pending is financial aid for the remaining cost of studying abroad, away from his own country, his family and friends: room and board, books, clothing and some other first need items. The total estimate rounds up to $35,000 for the entire program, or $3,500 per semester, or $875 per month (4 months) or … Many of us have been fortunate in life to accomplish many of our dreams. We have been able to enjoy growth in a far richer environment. There’s so much to do around the World in order to bring equality and opportunity, hope, to places we choose to ignore. Pablo knows that he is one of the “fortunate” ones, carrying already the responsibility to share with others, and bring this hope WE are about to provide. Please look deep within and find yourself in Pablo’s shoes. The decision to help is now yours! Marco Barrueto |
